Fourth Feedback:Poom’s blog

After reading your blog, I learned a lot. I agree that beginners would be confused about the syntax of python. And a clear flow chat would help them with that. Writing a code or really doing some practice is always the best way to learn a coding language. So I think it is smart that you provide some problems and practices during the video time. Students can test if they learn the important stuff or not in the video.

Thank you for writing this blog and introduce inclusive design for us. I agree with that nowadays there are some many information in the internet that can be provided for students. So this require students focus on what they really need. I like your four ways to help students build faith in learning progress. I am a computer science student and I know the feeling that feel discouraged about failing a debug test. So your methods can help student with it.

Second Feedback: Wangzi’s Blog

Thank you for introducing Open Pedagogies to us , and through out your blog I learn that this learning method can help people to learn coding. And myself is a coding learner , I believe group discussion would help a lot because people can communicate with each other. Maybe the problem I’m having now is someone else will have in the future, which makes communication very important. Learning from each other’s experiences saves time and effort in our learning process.

At the same time, teaching is also a good way to review. It is the also the progress to build your learning structure.

Peer Review of Pod 8

    This blog is giving feedback on “Chinese Language Basics.”Thank you for your effort in introducing Chinese culture to us. As a native Chinese speaker, I can still learn something from your work. And I think more pictures can make the reader more interested in the theme.

       Over view:

         I think breaking Chinese learning into three parts is an effective way to help readers understand the language. And pod8 use students’ point of view to explain why Chinese is hard to learn; for instance, they mention that Chinese culture and history could help students understand the language. However, Chinese culture and history could be complex for a beginner to this language, and the reader is not familiar with the language at first. So I suggest you use some stories that are easy to read to make students understand how Chinese grammar works.

       A description and rationale for the learning theory:

        This is my favourite part of your pod’s work; I think you guys analyze the interactive learning resources and form the learner’s point of view to design the learning theory. However, I believe one learning theory can be mainstream; for example, if the whole essay can use constructivist learning theory, students can easily choose the suitable method to learn and know which part is their disadvantage.

    The learning context:

     The title of this part is wrong, but I trust your guys can make it right. And I believe your teaching method would be perfect for beginners because speaking, writing and listening are essential to learning no matter what language. And I suggest that group discussion and competition would be helpful for the student to memorize the tone and grammar.

    A description of your learning context

     I can quickly know which group is your pod designed for, and students can choose your lesson wisely. 

        Learning outcomes

    I think the first outcome is not necessary, but the rest outcomes are clear. However, if your pod introduces the essential part of the cultural background of Chinese, it would be great to add “Know some culture and history of China” into this part.

      Brief commentary and one interactive activity for each learning topic:

    For topic 1, I don’t think introducing ancient Chinese is a good idea. Because there are huge differences between ancient Chinese and modern Chinese which is mandarin. Furthermore, four tones are the most crucial part of PinYing, and your pod can introduce it. It would be great if your group introduce similarities and differences between phonetic symbols and pinyin. Topic 3 is excellent; teaching Chinese grammar start from the difference between English and Chinese. For topic 4, I suggest numbers and names of animals would be helpful for students and easy to learn.  

    Assessment

     Communication is important in learning a language. So I suggest that your group let the students comprehensively judge how well they know, such as giving a speech in groups. This allows students to practice speaking and writing.   

   An overview of your plans to design for the inclusion of diverse learners.

    I think your pod miss the important part of this topic, and you guys should invent two different methods to teach children and adult. For example, writing is more important to children, so letting the children write the short story would be great. 

Overall, I enjoy reading the work of your pod. And it is clear and interesting in interactive learning resources. But there is still something that needs to be improved.

Hello guys, my name is Chenhao Fu, and I am a year2 student majoring in computer science. Furthermore, the reason why I chose this course is that I want to try something new and find a new interest maybe.

Welcome and Introduction

Before proceeding with this first blog post, we expect you to consider your privacy preferences carefully and that you have considered the following options:

  1. Do you want to be online vs. offline?
  2. Do you want to use your name (or part thereof) vs. a pseudonym (e.g., West Coast Teacher)?
  3. Do you want to have your blog public vs. private? (Note, you can set individual blog posts private or password protected or have an entire blog set to private)
  4. Have you considered whether you are posting within or outside of Canada? This blog on opened.ca is hosted within Canada. That said, any public blog posts can have its content aggregated/curated onto social networks outside of Canada.

First tasks you might explore with your new blog:

  • Go into its admin panel found by adding /wp-admin at the end of your blog’s URL
  • Add new category or tags to organize your blog posts – found under “Posts” (but do not remove the pre-existing “edci335” category).
  • See if your blog posts are appearing on the course website (you must have the the edci335 category assigned to a post first and have provided your instructor with your blog URL)
  • Add pages, if you like.
  • Include hyperlinks in your posts (select text and click on the link icon in the post toolbar)
  • Embed images or set featured images and embed video in blog posts and pages (can be your own media or that found on the internet, but consider free or creative commons licensed works). To embed a YouTube video, simply paste the URL on its own line.
  • Under Dashboard/Appearance,
    • Select your preferred website theme and customize to your preferences (New title, new header image, etc.)
    • Customize menus & navigation
    • Use widgets to customize blog content and features
  • Delete this starter post (or switch it to draft status if you want to keep it for reference)

Do consider creating categories for each course that you take should you wish to document your learning (or from professional learning activities outside of formal courses). Keep note, however, that you may wish to rename the label of the course category in menus (e.g., as we did where it shows “Learning Design” as the label for the “edci335” category menu.  This will enable readers not familiar with university course numbers to understand what to expect in the contents.

Lastly, as always, be aware of the FIPPA as it relates to privacy and share only those names/images that you have consent to use or are otherwise public figures. When in doubt, ask us.
